I chose to express my understanding of Giesenberg's seven spiritual domains through haiku. I have always enjoyed the simplicity of this artistic form. There is beauty in the inherent brevity and simple articulation that defines the structure of haiku poetry. I decided to write haiku instead of turning to visual art, my preferred mode of expression, to represent the domains. Getting to the point using less words is a challenge for me, I tend to write with a lot of words! The exercise of fitting my prose into the 5-7-5 syllabic structure was meditative. Of course, I had to include my paint box in the process. I added a watercolor border to each haiku, not to detract from the text, but to add a little extra visual interest to the composition. The domains illustrated above (from top middle, going clockwise, and ending in the middle) are: Self Awareness Development, Social Development, Moral Development, Emotional Development, Cognitive Development, Creative Development, and Faith/Belief Development.
