A sustainable garden
“Sustainability” refers to the continuation of a project’s goals,
principles, and efforts to achieve desired outcomes.
(Moving Forward: A Sustainability Planning Guide, n.d.)
Gorgas Garden aspires to be a respected organization within Roxborough that works to enhance the welfare of our community's children, and works to promote the well-being of the community. We hope that not only will today's children benefit from our efforts, but that future generations will enjoy the enhanced beauty of Gorgas Park, live healthy lifestyles, be stewards of our land and will take pride in Roxborough. In order to achieve these goals, Gorgas Gardens must understand that sustainability means "making sure that the goals of the project continue to be met" through planning and activities that meet the needs of the participants and the community (Moving Forward: A Sustainability Planning Guide).
Gorgas Garden plans to continue successful, sustainable practices in teaching and training, planning, collaborating and funding. Our program will continue to be flexible in its approach; dropping ineffective practices and constantly seeking to be more efficient and effective with our time and resources. After closely monitoring and evaluating our project's first year, we are planning for program sustainability by focusing on training volunteers and child leaders, increasing the utilization of social media for our benefit, joining in strategic collaborations with local stakeholders and assets, and creatively expanding our funding plan and resources.
